Mosque of the Jinn: A Historic Landmark in Makkah

This is one of the important historical mosques in Makkah. It is located near the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram). It was built in the early 3rd century AH (9th century CE).

The mosque is named after the place where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) met a group of jinn at night. This is also where Surah Al-Jinn was revealed. Allah says in the Quran:
"Say, ‘It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened [to the Quran] and said, ‘Indeed, we have heard a wonderful recitation’" (Surah Al-Jinn, 72:1).

This mosque is also called the Mosque of the Guard because it was the last point on the northeastern side of the Haram where the guards of Makkah would gather. Another name is the Mosque of the Pledge, because the jinn pledged their loyalty to the Prophet at this place.

King Abdulaziz Al Saud gave special attention to this mosque, and it has been recently renovated.
