Masjid Ji’ranah – Historic Umrah Site in Northeast Makkah

Located in the northeast of Makkah, this place has a mosque that was built before the 3rd century Hijri (9th century AD). Pilgrims from Makkah begin Umrah from here.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did Umrah from this place after the Battle of Ta'if. He also stayed here after the Battles of Hunayn and Autas in the 8th year of Hijrah (630 AD). At this place, he shared the spoils of war.

Someone asked Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him):
"How many times did the Prophet (PBUH) perform Hajj?"
He said: "Once. And he performed Umrah four times: once in Dhul-Qi’dah, once at Hudaybiyyah, once with his Hajj, and once from Ji'ranah, where he gave out the spoils of Hunayn."
