Masjid Aisha (RA) – The Miqat for Makkah Residents

Masjid Aisha is a famous mosque in Makkah. It is located to the west of the city. People who live in Makkah and nearby go there to start Ihram for Umrah.

The mosque is named after Aisha bint Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). After the Farewell Hajj, Aisha wanted to do Umrah. She said to the Prophet, "Your companions are going back with the reward of Hajj and Umrah, but I only did Hajj." The Prophet told her to go and perform Umrah, and her brother Abdur Rahman went with her. They went to a place called Tan’im, and she started her Umrah from there. The Prophet waited for her near Makkah.

This mosque is the closest place outside the Haram area where people can start or end Ihram. It was built in 240 AH (854 CE). The mosque has been fixed and improved many times. The last big repair was during the time of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz.
