Jabal Thawr and Madinah: Sacred Places in Islam

Jabal Thawr – The Mountain of Refuge

One of the famous mountains in Makkah is Jabal Thawr, located to the south of the Grand Mosque. During the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) journey to Madinah, he and his close companion Abu Bakr al-Siddiq stayed in the Cave of Thawr on this mountain for three nights.

The people from Quraysh were chasing them and reached the cave, but they could not find the Prophet and Abu Bakr inside. Allah protected them, as He says in the Quran:

“If you do not help the Prophet, Allah has already helped him when those who disbelieved were chasing him as he and his companion were in the cave. He said to his companion, ‘Don’t worry, Allah is with us.’”
— Surah At-Tawbah, 40

This story shows the great trust and faith the Prophet had in Allah during hard times.
