Hunayn Spring – Historic Water Source in the Valley of Hunayn

This is a fresh water spring located in the northeast of Makkah, in the Valley of Hunayn. The Battle of Hunayn happened here in the 8th year of Hijra (630 CE) between the Muslims led by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the tribe of Hawazin and their allies.

Allah mentioned this battle in the Quran:
"And [mention] the Day of Hunayn, when your great number pleased you, but it did not avail you at all." (Surah At-Tawbah, 9:25)

The spring was built by Zubaydah bint Ja'far, the wife of Caliph Harun al-Rashid, in the 2nd century Hijri (7th century CE). She made it to help pilgrims because water was very scarce in Makkah then.

A special feature of this spring is the Hunayn aqueduct, which has a unique design. The water flows into a pond on the other side of the valley.
