Umrah Rules

Rules for the Umrah Visa?

  • You must have a valid passport for at least 6 months.
  • Your passport must contain at least two blank pages.
  • You need a flight ticket with non-refundable confirmed dates.
  • If you already hold a valid entry visa or work visa, you are not allowed to apply for an Umrah visa either.
  • Passengers holding a valid Umrah visa can enter and exit Saudi Arabia only at Jeddah Airport or Madinah Airport. All other airports with codeshare flights are not permitted (e.g. Riyadh, Dammam, Yanbu).
  • Women under 45 and children under 20 must be accompanied by a male relative or "mahram" (i.e. husband, father, uncle, brother, son or grandfather). If your surnames are different, you must provide proof of your relationship with Mehram.
  • Mahram must travel on the same flight as the women and/or children.
  • Women over the age of 45 who want to travel alone can go for Umrah but must have a notarized letter or permission from Mahram.
  • If the traveler has a non-Muslim name, you must obtain a letter confirming that you are of the Muslim faith either from your mosque or Islamic center.
  • Please note that you cannot enter directly into Riyadh under the new rules for entering Umrah and Hajj. You will still have to disembark at Jeddah or Madinah airports using the available flights.
  • If you are connecting through a different airport to get to Jeddah or Medina, you can spend no more than 6 hours in transit. Your return flight has the same rules as traveling to Riyadh.
