Important Terms to be know

Aafaaqui: Resident of place outside Meequat limit.

Arafaat: An open vast land situated 22 km from Haram-e-Makkah where Hazrat Adam and Hawwa Met together After separation from heaven.

Arafa Day: Second day of haj i.e.9th of the month of Zilhijja.

Baitullah: the sacred House of Allah In Holy Makkah. It is also called Khanae- Kaba, Kabatullah, or only Kaabah.

Budnah: the sacrifice of an Ox, Cow, or camel as a penalty for violation of particular instruction during hajj intentionally or by mistake.

Damm: the sacrifice of a Goat, Sheep, or one-Seventh part of an Ox Cow, or Camel as a penalty for violating certain instructions during Haj.

Ehraam: During Umrah or Haj certain halal and legitimate things become Haraam ( forbidden) soon after Niyyah and Talbiah. This state is actually Ehram, but metaphorically the unsown cloth sheets used then are generally known as Ehraam.

Halque: To shave head for coming out of the state of Ehraam.

Haram: the demarcated land area in four directions around Kaabah in the holy mecca is called haram in view of its respect and holiness.

Hateem: An Arch like semi-circular protected area adjacent to the northern wall of the kaabah fixed up with a water pipe in the roof is called Hateem. It has to be included in Tawaf. It is also known as Hajar-e-Ismayeel.

Hill: The land outside Haram Limited up to Meequat. Whare all those things become halaal and permitted which are otherwise prohibited within Haram.

Hilli: The resident of Hill Area.

Huifa: Meequat towards Shaam (Syria), 187 km from Makkah.

Idh-tibaa: During Tawaaf put the Upper Cloth sheet of Ehraam under the right armpit and put it on the left shoulder.

Ifraad: one of the three ways of performing haj only one Ehram without Umrah.

Istilaam: During tawaf, to kids hajar-e-Aswad or kiss palms either by touching hajar with hands pointing palms towards Hajar from a distance.

Je-erranah: A place 22 km from Haeam -e- Makkah Where Ehraam for Umrah is put on during the stay in Makkah.

Jimar: pebbles to be pelted toward Jamrahs.

Jinayat: Penalty to be given on violations during Umrah and Haj.

Kaffaarah : Jinayat or Penalty to rectify Violation.

Mahram: A male accompanies a female from the start to the end of the journey of Umrah or Haj. He may be her husband or any other relative with whom marriage is forbidden, as father-son, father–in–law, etc.

Maquam – e – Ibrahim: the stone, which is referred to at two places in the holy Quran, and the prophet Ibrahim has built kaabah by standing on it His foot impressions are engraved over it. And preserved in a glass frame.

Mash-aray-Haram: Name of rock located in Muzdalifa.

Masjid-e-Kha-yef: the mosque in Mina Whare Hazrat Rasool-e-Akram passed His Days. Also about (70) prophets have previously performed namaz and were buried in this mosque only.

Masjid-e-Namirah: the mosque located in Arfaat ground but its portion under tombs is out of Arafaat limits. This is also known as Masjid-e-Ibrahim.

Marwah: the rocky mount near the northeastern corner of Kaabah.

Mas’aa: a lengthy land area for sa’ee between safa and Maewah.

Meela-yen Akharayen: two green pillars located in mas’aa in between which males walk speedily.

Meequat: fixed places in all four directions around Kaabah, from where it is wajib to put on ehraam.

Meezaab-e-Rahmat: A golden pipe fixed to the roofing wall of kaabah towards hate em by which the water of kaabah’s  roof falls and where do’aa is accepted.

Muhrim: the person wearing Ehraam.

Motamir: the pilgrim performing Umrah.

Mufrid: the pilgrim performing fraud haj.

Multazam: the space between Hajar-Aswad and Bab-e-kaabah whare it is sunnah to make do’aa by embracing the wall of kaabah.

Mustajaab: the wall of kaabah between Rukn-e-Yamaani and Rukn-e-Aswad where seventy thousand angels are deputed round the clock to say Aameen.

Mustajar: Rukn-e-Yamaani is about a one-meter wall of Kabah which is exactly opposite and rear to Nultazam.

Muzdalifa: from towards Arafaat open ground of about three km area. Whare night is passed on return from Arafaat and pebbles are picked up for pelting at Shayateen in Mina.

Quasr: (1)To trim head’s hair for coming out of Ehraam. (2) To perform two rakaats fardh namaz of zuhr, asr, and isha instead of four rakaats during the journey.

Quirnul-Manazil: Meequat for pilgrims arriving from the direction of Najd situated (80) km from Makkah

(NB:- At present, the name of Najd has been altered to Riyadh.)

Quiran: Aype of haj in which Umrah and haj both are performed in one and the same Ehraam.

Quiyam: It actually means to stay. Here as a term, it means to stay at Haram, Mina. Arafaat or Muzdalifa is also known as “Wuquoof.

Rabigg: A place at some distance outside from the Meequat of pilgrims coming from Seria.

Raml: for males, to walk hastily taking short steps and chest out with moving shoulders like a wrestler-entering ring.

Rami: To pelt pebbles at Jamaraats.

Rukn-e-iraqui: North-Easten corner of kaabah opposite Babul Fatah in the direction of Iraq.

Rukn-e-Shaami: North-Western Cornor of Kaabah Opposite Babul-Umrah in the Direction of Seria.

Rukn-E-Yamaani: South Western Corner of kaabah opposite Bab-e- Abdul Aziz in the Direction of Yaman.

Sadaquah: A penalty for Ordinary Violation of Umrah or Haj Rules Intentionally or by Mistake.

Sa’ee: To make seven trips between two rocky mounts commencing from Safa and terminating on Marwah.        

Shaut: one round in Tawaf.

Tahleel: To Say La- ilaha-illallah.

Takbeer: To Say Allahu- Akber.

Takbeer-e-Tashreeque: To say ( ALLAHU-AKBAH ALLAHU-AKBAR LA-ILAHA ILLALAHU WALLAHU AKBAR ALLAHU AKBAR WA LILLAHIL HAMD).

Talbiah: To Say during Umrah or Hajj. ( LABBAIK ALLAHUMMA LABBAIK, LABBAIKA LA SHAREEKA LAKA LABBAIK INNAL HAMDA WAN NE’MATA LAKA WAL MULK, LA SHAREEKA LAK.)

Tamaato: A type of hajj in which first umrah and then haj are performed in separate Ehraams.

Tan’yeem: A place (7.5) km from Haram-e-Makkah from where Umrah Ehram is put on for the resident of Makkah.

Tashreeque Days: From fajr of 9th Zolhijjah to asr of 13th Zilhijjah a total number of five days.

Tawaaf -e- Umrah: Tawaaf performed in Umrah Which is its rukn or Fardh ( obligatory).

Tawaf-e-Qudoom: First Tawaaf performed by Haj pilgrims in Ifrad and Qiran, immediately after entering Masjid-e- Haram.

Tawaaf-e-wada: A Send-off Tawaaf performed by the pilgrims while leaving Baitullah for native places.

Tawaaf-e-Ziarah: Tawaaf Performed by haj pilgrims from the 10th to 12th of Zilhijjah which is fardh ( obligatory) in haj.

Yalamlam: Meequat for pilgrims arriving in Makkah from the direction of Yaman India and pk It is situated (130) km from Makkah.

Zaat-e-Irque: Meequat for pilgrims arriving at Makkah from the Direction of Iraq. Situated (90) km from Makkah.

Zam-Zam: Holy water of zam-zam well, which come out when thirsty infant Ismail was rubbing his heals restlessly. This still gives holy water to lakhs of pilgrims by the grace of Allah.

Zul-Hulaifa: Meequat at (439) km from Makkah for pilgrims arriving in Makkah from Medina Munawwarah. It is also known as beir-e-Ali.
